Eaten Alive/ Monsters Inside Me: Parasites

This clip from Animal Planet has a couple of good examples of parasites in action*:

And this one from the BBC’s Planet Earth shows the Cordyceps parasite take over an ant:

This clips from NewScientist shows the jewel wasp turning a cockroach into its slave/zombie/mobile dining centre – scary!

*Sadly, the best clips have been removed from GoogleVideo. You can buy the 3-part series from Discovery, for the bargain price of $449.85. I still don’t understand why some producers have to charge such a ridiculous fee for their programmes – surely that restricts their use in education? Hats off to all the documentary makers who post them up for free after a while (such as The 11th Hour and SuperSizeMe).

    You might get it at the online store for animal planet. Otherwise there’s this video: http://ffh.films.com/id/6716/Eaten_Alive_Parasites_and_Their_Human_Hosts.htm but it’s expensive.

    Your site is great! I was wondering if you had any clips from that eaten alive – parasites animal planet video. I used to get my clips from youtube – and now they are removed – I’m kicking myself for not downloading them. I am a fellow teacher that is looking to track down the clips from that show. If you could help me out I’d appreciate it! Thanks so much!

      Thanks for the comment. They seem to have removed them, which is a shame. I’ve edited the post above to reflect this. There is another one called Monsters Inside Me – I’d get them now while you still can!

    I HAVE A COPY OF THE VIDEO “EATEN ALIVE” AND WAS WONDERING IF
    THERE WAS A SET OF RESEARCH QUESTIONS FOR USE IN A MY HEALTH
    CLASSES. I HAVE TALKED ABOUT PARTS OF THE VIDEO FOR YEARS BUT HAVE NEVER SHOWN IT IN CLASS. SOME QUESTIONS FOR THOUGHT OR RESEARCH WOULD BE GREAT AS A SUPPLEMENT FOR USE IN OUR CLASSES.
